Grace de Gier - Done

Grace de Gier is a Colombian singer-songwriter based in the Netherlands, blending indie and alternative rock with a cinematic and emotionally driven sound. At the core of the project is her ongoing creative partnership with Colombian multi-instrumentalist Edgar Grimaldos, based in France. Together, they have developed a distinctive sound marked by emotional intensity, honesty, and cohesion across their releases. Their single DONE was recorded in Paris, mixed by Yizux Friden in Bogotá, and mastered by Grammy-winning engineer Adam Ayan (Bruce Springsteen, Bohemian Rhapsody soundtrack, Foo Fighters), capturing a moment of emotional clarity and liberation. Grace de Gier’s work has gained international recognition, with features in Rolling Stone UK and the Spanish edition of Rolling Stone, reinforcing the project’s growing presence on the global indie rock scene. Due to recent health challenges, Grace is currently in recovery and preparing to return to the stage after a successful touring period, including performances in Ireland. She has also been selected to participate in several international festivals, including Springboard Festival in Texas, further highlighting the project’s growing international reach. DONE” is a song about breaking free from a toxic relationship and reclaiming personal strength.

It captures the moment of realization when staying hurts more than leaving, and choosing yourself becomes an act of liberation. Grace clarifies that the song is not based on her own personal experience. Instead, it was written for someone she cares deeply about who was struggling to free themselves from a toxic situation. At one point she told them, “I will write this for you,” with the intention of giving voice and strength not only to that person, but also to anyone who may recognize themselves in the story told through “DONE”. Recorded in Paris, “DONE” was shaped musically by Edgar Grimaldos, who performed all instruments and led the musical composition. The track leans more into indie and alternative rock, reflecting a raw, honest, and emotionally charged sound. The heavier and more intense sonic elements mirror the emotional weight of the story, representing the internal tension, frustration, and breaking point that often come before release. Grace chose to sing the song in English as it felt like the most natural language to express emotional distance and universality. Living in the Netherlands, she connects with an international audience that goes beyond the Spanish-speaking world, making English the most fitting choice for this release.
